Monti pushing for Italy reform to promote competition

The shake-up of Italy's economy, with new measures being announced by Prime Minister Mario Monti to make the country more competitive.

First in line is the deregulation of services like taxis, pharmacies and local public transport.

The plans have already proved highly controversial, with taxi drivers striking this week over plans to open up their industry to more competition.

John Wyse is from the European School of Economics in Rome. He said Monti wanted to bring "free market thinking" into several different sectors.
