Clamping down on betting shops 'would harm economy'

The Chief Executive of the Association of British Bookmakers has reacted to comments from Mary Portas that betting shops were a blight on deprived areas.

Dirk Vennix told BBC Radio 5 live Wake Up To Money that the shops increase the high street footfall and give people without qualifications more job opportunities than other employers.

The 'Queen of the High Street' has made 28 recommendations to government to reinvigorate the high street.
