Sir Martin Sorrell on new Google privacy policy

The world's biggest advertising group has reported a rise in profit.

WPP earned $1.6bn in 2011 and 30% of its revenues are now from digital media such as banner ads and sponsored search results such as those offered by Google.

On Thursday Google launched its new privacy policy which allows private data collected by one Google service can be shared with its other platforms including YouTube, Gmail and Blogger.

The company said the new set-up would enable it to tailor search results better.

Sir Martin Sorrell, chief executive of WPP told the BBC that the changes should be fine as long as they remain "transparent".
