Murdoch 'is lightning conductor'

James Murdoch has stepped down as chairman of BSkyB to try to distance the broadcaster from the phone-hacking scandal at his father's UK newspapers.

Media commentator Steve Hewlett said the resignation dented James Murdoch's chance of eventually taking over from his father Rupert as the head of the parent company, News Corporation.
