Vauxhall's 'ground-breaking deal' at Ellesmere Port

It has been announced that Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port car factory will build at least 160,000 Astra cars a year, in a deal that secures the future of the plant and protects thousands of jobs.

Owner General Motors has confirmed a £125m investment in the plant and said that up to £1bn would be spent in the UK supply chain.

The announcement followed a vote by Vauxhall staff in favour of a new pay and conditions deal. More than 2,100 staff work at the plant.

Duncan Aldred, Chairman and Managing Director of Vauxhall Motors, described the deal as "ground-breaking".
