FTSE 100 chief executives' pay increased by 12% in 2011

A survey of the bosses of Britain's leading businesses suggests their average pay rose by 12% in 2011.

That is more than five times the increase in average earnings.

The pay of the chief executives of FTSE 100 companies was, on average, £4.8m but what do people think they earn?

BBC Radio 5 live's James Vincent took to the streets to find out if people could guess how much the chief executive of Barclays earned last year. It was just under £21m.
