China reports slow growth

China's economy is experiencing the sharpest slowdown since the global financial crisis in 2008.

Figures showed that the annual pace of economic growth slowed to 7.6% in the three months to the end of June.

In the previous quarter growth was running at 8.1%.

The government has been trying to revive the economy by lowering interest rates and lifting spending.

Michael Pettis is the Professor of Finance at Peking University and he told the BBC part of China's problem is that it had been "massively over-investing."
