Indonesia's growing population fuels domestic demand

Indonesia has been hailed as Asia's next economic powerhouse. One of its main strengths is its large population, which is helping offset weaker demand for its exports.

In June, Indonesia's exports fell more than 16% from a year earlier.

By contrast, domestic consumption is rising, and has gained 5% in the first three months of the year.

Prakriti Sofat, regional economist with Barclays, told the BBC'a Asia Business Report that confidence among Indonesia's consumer was key to its future growth.
