Chote: Economic forecasts 'difficult' to make

The Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR) was created by the coalition government to produce independent forecasts on which they could base political decisions.

But the OBR revised down its projections for GDP growth as the chancellor delivered his 2012 Autumn Statement.

Defending the revision to the figures, the chairman of the OBR Robert Chote, told Newsnight's Jeremy Paxman that producing economic figures involved making "difficult judgements."

He added that politicians do not have to "believe in their forecasts" if they disagree with them.
