India's street traders in protests at police crackdown

In India, street vendors in Mumbai and Delhi have been holding protests, after the death of a fruit seller, who they claim died following a recent crackdown by police.

It is estimated there are more than 10 million street vendors, selling everything from food to clothing, on pavements in towns and cities across the country.

For some residents and businesses such stalls are a nuisance.

But for many stall owners, it is the only way to make a living, as Rajini Vaidyanathan reports.
