Poundland 'forced labour' claim wins on appeal

Anyone made to work unpaid or face losing their benefits under the government's back-to-work schemes has a "right to claim their money back", lawyer Tessa Gregory has argued.

Ms Gregory was speaking after the Court of Appeal ruled the regulations under which most of the schemes have been created were legally flawed.

The case was brought by university graduate Cait Reilly and HGV driver Jamie Wilson.

The government says there will be no compensation for anyone who had their benefits removed, saying the Appeal Court judges backed the High Court's view that requiring jobseekers to participate in the scheme did not breach human rights.
