Why do rural drivers pay more for petrol?

Rising petrol prices are hitting rural drivers, with fuel costing up to 2p a litre more in the countryside than in towns and cities.

Smaller countryside retailers do not have the volume of petrol that city suppliers have, reducing their ability to offer discounts. They also have greater distribution costs.

The price of petrol has risen 6.24p per litre since January.
