Weak US jobs numbers 'unexpected'

Just 88,000 jobs were created in the US in March, far fewer than the 200,000 predicted by economists.

The unemployment rate dropped to 7.6% from 7.7% in February as more people dropped out of the workforce, according to Labor Department figures.

The BBC's Michelle Fleury in New York said that there were "plenty of reasons to be concerned" about the figures which were "much lower than had been forecast".
