Can Japanese carmakers turn recall to their advantage?

Four of Japan's top carmakers said they are recalling 3.4 million of their cars globally because of a defect in passenger airbags.

Toyota Motors, the biggest of the carmakers is recalling 1.73 million car, Honda will recall 1.13 million, while 480,000 Nissan cars and 45,000 Mazda cars are affected.

But, Vivek Vaidya, analyst at Frost & Sullivan, said despite the short pain of this huge recall, if the process is done right it can actually strengthen customer loyalty.
