Unemployment figures: UK jobs market explained

UK unemployment has risen to 2.52 million, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has said.

The figures showed 15,000 more people were unemployed in the three months to the end of March, with the unemployment rate now at 7.8%.

However, the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance has fallen by 7,300 last month to 1.52 million, the lowest level since June 2011.

It has proved something of a puzzle for economists as the BBC Breakfast's Stephanie McGovern explains.
