Walmart's Bangladesh safety plan flawed, says union

A number of Western retailers have backed plans to try to improve the safety of clothing factories in Bangladesh.

But Walmart, the world's largest retailer, along with several other US retailers, said it would not participate.

More than 1,100 people died when the nine-storey Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh collapsed on 24 April.

Tim Noonan from the International Trade Union Confederation said the agreement would protect low paid workers and allow them to play an active role in improving factory safety.
