US oil spill costs: 'Future of BP assured'

The oil company BP has said its recovery from the Gulf of Mexico disaster in 2010 is being put at risk because the compensation system is being abused.

The company claims huge sums are being paid to firms which suffered no loss from the Deepwater Horizon explosion.

Cornelia Meyer, chief executive at MRL Corporation and former BP executive, said the amount of compensation being paid out to businesses will not lead to the collapse of the company.
