Filipino families divided by dependence on overseas work

Families in the Philippines are being forced to live apart due to the country's dependence on overseas work, it has been claimed.

Many Filipinos send a large percentage of their salaries back home to relatives, with these remittances accounting for a tenth of the economy.

They are also credited with fuelling the nation's consumer spending boom.

But as Sharanjit Leyl reports, this addiction to money from abroad could damage the economy in the long run.
