'Brazilians not celebrating yet' after GDP figures

Brazil's economy grew by 3.3% year-on-year in the second quarter, according to official new state figures.

The Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatistica (IBGE) also said that the economy grew by 1.5% in the quarter from the previous one - economists had predicted 0.9%.

The BBC's Ruth Costas in Sao Paulo told BBC World News: "Brazilians are not celebrating yet because we expect a weaker third quarter, the Brazilian central bank has increased their benchmark interest rate... inflation is out of control, so the economy is not getting better."

But, she continued: "The job market is still strong and unemployment reached a record low last year."
