Workers' and businesses on auto-enrolment pensions

A year since the start of the automatic-enrolment workplace pension scheme, workers in Rochdale have been giving BBC business reporter Steph McGovern their views.

The first workers to be automatically signed up to The National Employment Savings Trust (Nest) were from large firms but now smaller companies, employing a few thousand people, are joining as well.

Plant Engineer Lee Marcroft said he would be opting out as he did not want to invest "in something that's put on the stock market and played about with like it's roulette!"

Pensions expert Hilary Salt said that was a common view but, "by opting out, people are giving up the valuable employer contributions that would otherwise be paid on their behalf".
