Will increase in sales tax boost Japan's economy?
The BBC's Rupert Wingfield-Hayes hears from shoppers in Tokyo following the news that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe plans to raise Japan's consumption tax next April - for the first time in 16 years.
The move is needed to reduce the country's huge debts - but some economists fear the increase could slow down or even kill off Japan's economic recovery.
One man said it would be "really hard" because wages were not increasing, while a woman said there was "no choice but to put up taxes".
