Can desalination plan revive fortunes of Jordan desert?

The Jordanian government is planning to tackle the country's lack of water with a number of desalination plants.

The plan would breathe new life into farmland that returned to desert once water was no longer pumped there, 30 years ago.

However the first plant alone would cost almost $1bn and has attracted criticism from environmentalists, as Jeremy Howell reports.
