Record high for UK house prices, says ONS

UK house prices rose to a new high in August, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The average price of a house or flat is now £247,000.

The Office for National Statistics says prices rose by 3.8% in England compared with August last year.

The figures suggest house prices are rising in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but still falling in Scotland.
