Help to Buy: More than 2,000 apply for government's housing scheme

More than 2,000 people have applied to take part in the government's extended Help To Buy scheme.

The first phase of the project was launched in April, and aimed to help first-time buyers purchasing new-build homes.

The extended scheme is designed to encourage lenders to offer mortgages with deposits as low as 5%.

Some critics have warned that it could lead to a housing bubble.

Simon Gompertz reports.
