EDF boss: 'Limited rise makes us different'

EDF chief executive Vincent de Rivaz has said his company is "different" after announcing an average gas and electricity price rise of 3.9% which he says is "less than half" that of its rivals.

"Our customers will be better off at least £80 a year compared to those of the major energy suppliers who have increased their tariffs," he told BBC News.

He said it was because EDF had "done the right thing" by reducing its overheads and buying energy on the wholesale market.
