'Young Chinese don't necessarily want more children'

Shares increased sharply on Monday following news of China's social and economic reform plans, which include relaxing the one child policy and opening up the financial sector.

Frederic Neumann, co-head of Asian Economics Research at HSBC, told BBC News that the reforms should drive domestic consumption and spread wealth more evenly.

However, he was sceptical that the changes would lead to a baby boom: "If you talk to young Chinese they don't necessarily want to have more children - the society has moved on."
