Why is Dubai such an important hub for defence deals?

The Dubai Airshow began with middle eastern airlines spending billions of dollars on new planes.

Now, US defence firms, amongst others, are out in force. Little expense seems to have been spared to showcase their fighter jets, bombers and other military hardware.
