Mark Carney 'offended' by Labour MP's questioning

The Governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, has said he is "more than mildly offended" by criticism from a Labour MP that he is too close to the Chancellor, George Osborne.

In a prickly exchange, Labour's John Mann, a member of the Treasury Committee, had accused Dr Carney of picking timescales for economic figures in order to present a "rosier picture" of the recovery.

Elsewhere in the hearing, Mr Carney said the Bank would review whether it needed more powers to control banks' balance sheets.
