Australia 'hopeful' Toyota can sustain car parts sector

Toyota is soon to be the only carmaker still operating in Australia, following the news that General Motors will end operations there.

Analysts say the auto parts industry, which employs up to 33,000 people in Australia, could be vulnerable to significant job losses too - especially if Toyota decides to wind down its presence there.

But Richard Reilly of the Federation of Auto Products Manufacturers tells the BBC that while the components sector is dependent on volume and scale, he is hopeful the industry can survive with just one car manufacturer.
