'Drug companies shouldn't pay doctors' - BMJ editor
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) will stop paying doctors for promoting its drugs and scrap prescription targets for its marketing staff.
The move follows an investigation into alleged bribery of doctors in China, but GSK says the measures are unrelated.
It is a major change in its practices, and a challenge for others in the industry to follow suit.
Speaking to the BBC's Ben Thompson, Editor of the British Medical Journal Fiona Godlee said: "What doctors need is independent, unbiased information about the benefits and harms of drugs."
