Morrisons are 'so far behind' rival supermarkets

Like-for-like sales at Morrisons fell 5.6% in the six weeks to 5 January, the company announced last week.

It has now emerged the supermarket chain is hoping to raise hundreds of millions of pounds by selling off some of its stores.

Speaking to the Today programme, Edward Garner from supermarket analysts Kantar Worldpanel said: "The idea is they want to save some money to appease shareholders.

"[Morrisons] are seriously weak in two areas - the internet and convenience stores... they're so far behind."

First broadcast on the Today programme on Monday 13 January.
