Chinese tourists 'to spend over £310bn in 2014'

Chinese tourists will spend "in excess of £310bn" in 2014, Matthew Plowright, principal at China Confidential, has estimated.

This figure would amount to around £30bn more than the previous year.

The most popular destinations for Chinese tourists "remain in Asia", Mr Plowright added, though they "increasingly" prefer to travel to Europe.

He added that a lot of the travellers "like to visit multiple countries in a single trip".

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 19 February.
