Co-op boss resignation letter 'threatens' group, says MP

The decision of Co-op chief executive Euan Sutherland to offer his resignation "threatens" the group, Labour and Co-operative MP Meg Hillier has said.

In his resignation letter Mr Sutherland said he believed the group was "ungovernable" under its current structure and, in an effort to persuade him to stay, the board has agreed to restructure so it can be managed in a more conventional way.

But speaking to the Today programme, Ms Hillier said Mr Sutherland was "completely ignoring" the mutual ethos of the Co-operative Group in his actions and needed to be "accountable" to the group's members.
