Royal Mail strike action over jobs 'cannot be ruled out'

Industrial action against Royal Mail cannot be "ruled out" following plans to cut 1,600 jobs, the trade union Unite has said.

Brian Scott, Unite's officer for Royal Mail, told the Today programme that although strike action was not currently on the agenda, it "may happen" in future.

His comments come after Royal Mail announced plans to cut 1,600 roles as part of a drive to lower costs, mainly among its head office managerial staff.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Tuesday 25 March.
