Proposed iron mine causes controversy in northern Sweden

A proposed iron mine is causing controversy in northern Sweden.

British company Beowulf Mining test drilling shows the iron ore to be of good quality and that mining could provide hundreds of local jobs.

Sami reindeer herders in the area say the mine threatens their way of life.

Stefan Andersson is the Mayor of Jokkmokk, the nearest town to the mine site.

He says mining could help reverse the area's declining population and give young families a reason to stay.
