BP to learn Gulf of Mexico oil spill fine fate

The third and final leg of the civil trial over the Gulf of Mexico oil spill gets under way on Tuesday and will determine how much BP must pay in penalties under the US Clean Water Act.

US government prosecutors had been pushing for a $18bn fine - but last week a judge rejected their argument on the size of the spill, so the maximum BP can now be fined is $13.7bn.

Michelle Fleury reports from New Jersey.
