The Russians struggling with the country's economic troubles

The Russian economy is in turmoil - Western sanctions over Ukraine, the fall in oil and gas prices and a tumbling currency have all contributed to dim financial forecasts.

As part of the BBC's Richer World series, Olga Ivshina travels to the northern province of Yaroslavl to meet some of the people who are feeling the pinch.

"Every rouble matters when you need to save money," says 79-year-old Valentina Golenkina, who walks nearly an hour to get to a particularly cheap pharmacy. "I haven't bought any fruit this year, and I buy meat only on big holidays."
