Being a working mum in Japan

In Japan, it is still common for many women to want to give up their own jobs once they become mothers and stay at home to raise their children.

In a recent survey, more than a third of women in their twenties said they wanted to become housewives.

However, with an average salary of just $30,000 (£19,000) - many households need two incomes rather than one to make ends meet, as the BBC's Mariko Oi reports.
