South Africa's finance minister fiasco
On 9 Dec, President Jacob Zuma sacked his well-respected Finance Minister, Nhlanhla Nene, replacing him with a relative unknown, David van Rooyen. That appointment caused panic in the markets and saw the rand plunge to record lows.
Just four days later, after criticism from within and from outside his own ruling ANC party last weekend, President Zuma fired Mr van Rooyen and filled the post with Mr Nene's predecessor, Pravin Gordhan.
And the financial markets were as confused as the general public. The BBC's Milton Nkosi tried to make sense of it all for Africa Business Report.
