How will humans react to driverless cars?

The biggest unknown factor when it comes to driverless cars is us: humans. How quickly can we take charge again if the computer stops? What will we get up to while we're being driven around?

The University of Southampton is leading an ÂŁ11m, four year research project to test these so-called "human factors". They are beginning by putting drivers of all ages through their paces in a driverless car simulator.

Our transport correspondent, Richard Westcott, was taken through the test by Professor Neville Stanton, of the University of Southampton.
