China stocks: 'Circuit breaker' mechanism explained

Chinese shares have risen on the first day of trade since the lifting of a "circuit breaker" mechanism, which had been introduced to prevent sharp falls.

The mechanism, which had been in place since the start of this year, suspends trading on China's main stock markets if stocks fall 7%.

The circuit breakers were designed to "protect investors and calm markets", according to regulators.
