EU Commission seeks transparency on tax

Some of the world's biggest multi-national companies could be forced to publish details of profits and taxes paid in individual EU countries under plans being published by the European Commission.

Firms such as Google, Apple and Amazon have been criticised in the past for not paying enough in tax.

The commission is hoping that imposing greater transparency will reduce the appeal of offshore tax havens.
