British Gas to raise prices by 12.5%

British Gas will increase electricity prices by 12.5% from mid-September, its owner Centrica has said. However, the company's gas prices will be held at their current level.

Centrica's chief executive Iain Conn told the Today programme the price hike is down to increases in the cost of "transmission, distribution and government policy".
