'We need to create a hydrogen society'

Electric cars may be the future, but what kind of electric cars? Japan's Toyota has been a pioneer of hybrid cars and is now investing heavily in hydrogen fuel cell technology.

But hydrogen cars need hydrogen fuel, battery cars need charging points and new infrastructure is expensive. Theo Leggett asked Johan van Zyl, Toyota Motor Europe's chief executive, whether the company had chosen the wrong option.
