A-level passes rise for 29th year
Tens of thousands of students are scrambling to get a university place after another record year for A level passes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The percentage of students achieving top grades has remained unchanged but, overall, the number of candidates being awarded an A-level has risen slightly.
Demand for university places is particularly intense this year because of the rise in tuition fees in 2012.
