GCSE results: 'I became an apprentice at 16'
Pupils in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are getting their GCSE results.
Girls have increased their lead on boys for top grades in GCSEs, in another record-breaking year for passes.
Results show an increase, for the 23rd year running, in the proportion of entries awarded between an A* and a C grade.
For those students who do not wish to continue with further education, apprenticeships may be the way forward.
The BBC's Colette Hume spoke to Beth Pickering, who took an apprenticeship at Airbus in Broughton, north Wales, about why she chose the route.
