School funding: 'We are losing lesson hours because of cuts'

David Cameron has promised a future Conservative government would protect England's schools budget in cash terms. The prime minister said the government would provide a further £7bn for extra places for rising numbers of pupils.

However, he warned per pupil spending would not keep pace with inflation.

One school affected by funding changes is Southend High School for Boys. The school has said it will have a budget deficit of between £200,000 and £250,000 next year under current funding arrangements.

Two pupils at the school, George and Max, describe how spending limits have already affected their education, from reduced teaching time to fewer resources.
