Vice-Chancellor: raising teaching standards 'entirely appropriate'
Sir David Bell is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading and a former Chief Inspector of Schools in England.
Sir David said the Teaching Excellence Framework, whereby universities can only raise fees when they meet particular quality thresholds was "entirely appropriate".
However, speaking to BBC Radio 4's The World at One programme he said that whilst universities are open to the focus on improving teaching, a school style inspection system would "not be appropriate" for universities.
