The UK government has issued new guidance which means pupils and teachers in England's secondary schools and colleges must wear face masks, and says it wants to continue prioritising the wellbeing and long-term future of young people.
But many local leaders say colleges, schools and universities should be shut to stop covid spreading.
While there's guidance from individual governments, it's down to head teachers and staff to decide what works best for their school, college or university.
