Election 2015: NHS in Wales a 'travesty' says Hunt

NHS founder Aneurin Bevan would be "turning in his grave" at the way Wales runs the service, UK government Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has claimed.

Mr Hunt told BBC Wales' health correspondent Owain Clarke the devolved Labour government's policies were a "travesty".

Although health is devolved, the relative performance of the service in Wales and England is an election issue.

Mr Hunt was election campaigning for the Conservatives in Newport.

But Welsh Labour's Deputy Health Minister Vaughan Gething AM said: "Every time Mr Hunt speaks about the NHS it reminds people why the health service is only safe in Labour's hands.

"People in Wales continue to have access to evidence-based treatments for all conditions - not just cancer - which have been approved for use in the NHS by both the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group."
